eduroam Pilot for the UAE
Giving visiting researchers, faculty, students and staff easy access to a university’s Internet network can go a long way towards creating a competitive academic ecosystem. This service – educational roaming – is provided by eduroam®, first deployed in the UAE by EPFL Middle East in 2011.
In order to expand eduroam® on the national level, EPFL initiated a partnership with TERENA, who manages the eduroam® infrastructure around the world, and Ankabut, the UAE Advanced Network for Research and Education, to implement the first national pilot for eduroam® in the UAE. Press Release from Ankabut.
EPFL led a working group formed of American University of Sharjah, EPFL Middle East and Khalifa University in order to deploy this pilot. It was successful. It is the first in the GCC region. See more about the project.
